but what if there’s a superhero ensemble with parents who are also superheroes* (*or villains or anywhere in between or off that line entirely — I’m just thinking in the superhero genre in general?)
not only mentors or guardians, but parents (not just birth parents or creators)
and parents who don’t have to be evil to be awful parents (or the kind who are badass at their superheroing but whose family is only there for angst! and (self-)sacrifice!)
and exploring how relationships change as you grow up
and without ‘civilian’ family members getting fridged, thanks
and parents who aren’t metaphors for ‘the’ nuclear family (like in The Incredibles)
and ‘your family is the one you choose’ is a great inspiring setup, but sometimes you’re stuck with your parents and they aren’t killed off and you’re not whisked away to Hogwarts or some other boarding school and they aren’t guest stars, they insist on being fellow cast members —
so yeah, it’s this thick stew ripe with betrayal (big and small) and misunderstandings and friction and humour and absurdity and pain and blood
now give it to me
